If you are interested in an Abelard puppy, please drop an e-mail to abelardshowdogs@comcast.net. We only take a few deposits prior to the puppies being born, but we will maintain a waiting list of people beyond that who are  interested in taking the next step.

Searching for a puppy?

If you are in Washington, please visit the Evergreen Golden Retriever Club website for a list of breeders who have signed a Code of Ethics and are trying to do a good job breeding better Goldens (www.egrc.org). If you are from out of the area, we suggest you visit the Golden Retriever Club of America web site and look for the Golden club in your area (www.grca.org) . Many of these clubs have breeder lists and puppy referrals.

Please note the following before contacting us regarding a puppy:

  • We require a fenced yard; this is for the protection of the puppy.
  • We require puppy kindergarten or beginning obedience; this is to ensure that you have a well-mannered dog that you have bonded with and can truly enjoy as a family member.
  • We require that you spay or neuter your puppy; this is for the protection of the breed and to prevent unwanted puppies being foisted on an already overwhelmed rescue community.
  • We require references and are happy to return the favor; this is to help us build a bond of trust with each other.
  • We require that you return the puppy to us at any point in its life that you can no longer keep it; we want to make sure that any puppies we produce have a "safe haven" for life.

Also please note that we do not sell puppies outside of the U.S. or Canada.

Please consider rescue as an alternative to purchasing a new puppy. Golden Retriever Rescue information can be found at www.egrc.org

Guidelines for locating a good breeder can be found at http://www.grca.org/menu_searchingforgr.htm.
