Johnny is my dream-come-true, the dog I have been awaiting for the better part of a decade. When I brought Pearl over from Australia in 2001, my vision was to combine the strengths of English & Australian dogs with the style and temperament of my older pedigree. I fantasized about combining Pearl's offspring into the grandchildren of Summer and Quest, creating outcross vitality with the style of dog I so deeply admire. And along comes Johnny! If Pearl seems like she's a tad different than the other Abelard dogs, it's because she came from Australia! One of our concerns when breeding Golden Retrievers is genetic diversity, which many believe has a positive impact on longevity and general health. What kind of name is that?! The short answer is that Nyx was a daughter of Chaos in Greek mythology. The long answer can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nyx. At our house, Nyx is a mischievous merry-maker who is always ready for anything you throw at her -- whether it's just a ride to the store, a tennis ball, a cookie or your lap. "Towanda!" Yeah, I know. All my dogs have weird names. So if you've ever seen the movie Fried Green Tomatoes you already know what the battle cry "Towanda!" is all about. If you haven't, geez...go rent it! Towanda is one of the nicest girls we've ever had the pleasure to share our lives with. "Winter" My funny girl Winter...whose name was chosen because she shares a father with my foundation girl, Summer. Summer was born from Robbie's last natural litter, in 1996. Darling Hope, the perfect puppy. Hope is out of a boy we bred, Am/Can CH. Abelard's Mister Fizz and the lovely Aussie import Kingsgold Rythem N Blues. She is the perfect puppy -- she never does anything wrong and just wants to please. You have to see her lying on her back, batting a ball around, or hopping in the river and wondering how to swim!
