Abelard has bred many dogs that are owned by others but are titled as champions, agility dogs, obedience dogs, etc. This is our tribute to them.

"Trace"

Abelard's Saturday Night Honky Tonk

I rarely place show puppies with people I don't already know well, but when they arrive with references as awesome as Pam Stirling did, it's exciting! At barely 6 months of age, Trace is already making his mark, pictured going BOSS at his first show!

His pedigree can be found here: http://www.k9data.com/pedigree.asp?ID=458651, I don't think we've heard the last from this beautiful puppy!

"Paddy"

Snowtree 'N Abelard's Big Bold Hope CDX RAE JH NJP WC CCA VC CGC

Bred by myself and Pam Hird, "Paddy" is the son of Am/Can Ch Abelard's Mister Fizz and my Australian import, Kingsgold Rythem N Blues. At just 25 months old he has already earned 11 AKC and GRCA titles and is on track to be one of the most versatile out-cross stud dogs. "Paddy" has also garnered a Reserve Winners Dog under breeder judge Gloria Kerr and a Best Puppy with very limited showing, proving he can do it all and do it well, all while being owner-handled and trained. He can be seen currently competing in Utility, Senior Hunter, agility, tracking, and conformation. "Paddy's" owner reports he is an easy keeper, brimming with personality and loves to snuggle!
"Paddy" is OFA Good and has all his clearances. You can find his pedigree here: http://www.k9data.com/pedigree.asp?ID=342360
For more info about breeding to him, please contact his owner directly at sarakuzenko@gmail.com

"Captain"
Ch. Chuckanut's Captain Kangaroo

When Ken, Wayne and I bred their famous boy Andy to Pearl, we weren't sure exactly how it would turn out. Extreme outcrosses are unpredicatable. We knew that it was a type-to-type breeding, which is often the best method of achieving what you want, but we weren't sure how a 0.006% inbreeding coefficient would look in real life.

We were so happy and impressed with the result! Captain is a classic, powerful athlete, a stunning showdog and excellent hunting companion. I thank Ken & Wayne every day for the wonderful home and excellent molding and shaping they did with this boy. Captain is now producing outstanding puppies as well and should provide a strong option to breeders looking for outcross vitality in their programs. For more information on Captain, contact Ken at kbmatthews@earthlink.net.

"Opal"
Ch. Abelard's On Walkabout
to Kingsgold

Lest you think that Captain was the only nice dog out of Andy and Pearl, take a gander at his sister, Opal. Our Aussie friend and Pearl's breeder chose her as his pick at 8 weeks of age, and she matured into an absolutely stunning example of the breed. Opal also has produced well, and is the mother of our beautiful Towanda (who is one of 2 dogs with Excellent hips from that litter).

For more information on Opal, put on your Crocodile Dundee hat and contact Bruce and Angela McLean at kingsgold1@gmail.com.

"Rose"
Abelard's Once Upon a Dream, RN, CGC

I am as proud of beautiful Briar Rose as any dog I've ever bred. Another Pearl daughter, I kept her as a show prospect as a puppy. As she matured, however, I decided that her temperament was just too soft and that she was not the best choice for my breeding program. Along came Bob Wyatt, who was not intimidated by her shyness and said he was willing to take her on as a project. Little did I know that he would actually compete with her!

Rose now has a Rally Title, a CGC and (as you can see in the photo) a 1st place win in Novice Obedience! She is still hesitant in new situations, but Bob's devotion to her has let our little bud blossom into a truly beautiful Rose.

Thank you, Bob. You are inspiring. I cry every time I look at this picture!

"Scully"
Ch. Abelard's Love on the Run

When I became discouraged with the show scene and doubted the possibility of finishing this fine girl, new owners Ken Matthews and Suzanne Rapier took her on as a project! To say that the tears rained when she finished her championship as a six-year-old at the Evergreen Golden Retriever Club Specialty under respected breeder-judge Jon Chase  would be an understatement. I will be eternally grateful to Ken and Suzanne for believing in her, for going the extra mile, and helping get Scully the attention she so deserved.

"Tai"
Ch. Abelard's Fire and Spice

Tai finished his championship in grand style, with three 5-point majors, shown to perfection by Joanna Matthiesen. Tai is a substantial, deeply colored Golden with breathtaking movement and style dripping from every pore. He is now owned by long-time friend Jan Muravez, who was kind enough to send him "home" for a couple of weeks to be bred to our lovely Brett (hoping for puppies in October). Tai and his sister Salsa are by Am-Can Ch. Chuckanut's Northern Exposure, OS, SDHF our of Am-Can Ch. Balmoral's Hot Legs at Abelard, OD. Tai is OFA Excellent.

"Salsa"
Ch. Abelard's Red Hot Tamale Legend, SDHF

Salsa (Tai's beautiful sister) is owned by Pam Hird of Snowtree Goldens. Her show career was nothing less than phenomenal, and she has the distinction of being Abelard's first Show Dog Hall of Fame bitch. She is a multiple specialty-winner with many best of breed and Group wins. She was also Mile-Hi GRC's Show Bitch of the Year.

"Griffey"
Ch. Abelard's And Kiros' Homerun

This gorgeous boy won specialties in both the U.S. and Canada and was owned by the Hachtels of Kiros Goldens. Griffey was Scully's littermate and the son of Ch. Boitano's Band on the Run to Abelard, OS  (our own Quest) and Am-Can Ch. Balmoral's Hot Legs at Abelard. Griffey was a beautiful example of breed type with wonderful depth of body, fluid movement, great layback and lovely length of neck. He is missed by us all.

"Robbie"
Ch. Abelard's Boy Wonder, SDHF

Robbie is a full brother to Griffey and Scully, pictured above. He is owned by Jackie and Marc Kupau and Shari Fukuyama, and Shari put the majority of specialty and Group wins on this worthy gentleman, making him the first male of our breeding to enter the Golden Retriever Club of America's Show Dog Hall of Fame. It's always exciting to have one of our dogs win under a respected breeder-judge, and here is Robbie taking a Specialty Best of Breed under Jeffrey Pepper. For more information on Robbie, you can contact his owners directly at chowz@hawaii.rr.com.

"Webster"
Ch. Abelard's Fun With Words, CD, CGC

When Sally Anne Rowland contacted me for her first show puppy back in the summer of 2000, little did she know the journey she was undertaking. I'll never forget the frantic phone calls...when his tooth wouldn't fall out, when he wasn't eating enough...the kind of calls any brand-new show person makes. Sally Anne worked very hard, learned more lessons than she probably wanted to learn, and helped Webster achieve not only conformation but obedience titles as well.

"Taylor"
Am/Can Ch.
Abelard Bld n Beautifl at Snowtree

Any time a puppy goes to Pam Hird, it is a very lucky baby indeed. Not only does she love her dogs completely, she invests the time and energy it takes to help them achieve their potential. In Taylor's case, she completed both her American and Canadian championships  and took Reserve Winners Bitch at the California National with hardly any coat! Taylor is by Am/Can Ch. Chuckanut's Brasstime TD, JH, NA, NAJ, WC,VCX,OS,SDHF; Can TD,JH,WC,OS out of our foundation bitch Summer, Am/Can Ch. Balmoral's Hot Legs at Abelard, OD.

"MacDuff"
Ch. Abelard's Monarch of the Glen

What a sizzling show career for this gorgeous boy! MacDuff is from the "Soap Opera" litter by Am/Can Ch. Chuckanut's Brasstime TD, JH, NA, NAJ, WC,VCX,OS,SDHF; Can TD,JH,WC,OS out of our foundation bitch Summer, Am/Can Ch. Balmoral's Hot Legs at Abelard, OD.  Mac Duff's impressive wins include a "Best Puppy" at the Gunpowder Golden Retriever Specialty and a RWD from the 9-12 class at that same show. He finished in style, with back-to-back 4-point majors at Yankee and Ladies'. Considering he's the wrong color for the East Coast show ring. MacDuff is owned by our good friend Ellen McKenna at CompassRose Goldens. For more information, e-mail Ellen at ellenmckenna@comcast.net.

Many more to come. I'm trying!
